Talbot Oration

Overview

Named in honour of former Australian Museum Director Professor Frank Talbot, this oration celebrates Talbot’s commitment to, and achievements in, marine research and environmental studies in Australia and on the global stage.

ICS is a proud supporting partner of the Australian Museum’ annual Talbot Oration.

ICS recognises the escalating global climate emergency and is committed to mitigating global warming through practical measures, energy efficiency, waste management and sustainability programs, and supporting our community to do the same.

The Talbot Oration showcases advances in the field of climate change research and environmental conservation.  It enables the public to better understand how responses to the climate challenge determine our future prospects, health, and the sustainability of our natural environment.

The 2023 Talbot Oration, Coral Reefs in Hot Water,  was delivered by Dr Anne Hoggett AM, Co-Director of the Australian Museum’s Lizard Island Research Station (LIRS).  Dr Hoggett shared her extensive knowledge about the importance of coral reefs, their complex biology, the urgent need for action, and how we can help.

The Talbot Oration is a Nights at the Museum Special Event.
