Condition

Summary

All of the following objects were in generally good condition.  Most had a dust layer, minor abrasions and missing parts.  Some contained adhesive tape residue, frayed cords, mould, paint delamination, cracks, corrosion, grease, and bent metal.

  • Electric Magic Lantern Projector
  • PYE Camera
  • Sony Beta Camera
  • Bell and Howell 601 Projector Tripod
  • Wat Vic Splicer
  • Eumig Film Splicer
  • The Magic Lantern Outfit – Toy Lantern
  • Ralph Baer Breadboard
  • 400 Porto-Arc 16mm Projector
  • Magnaphonic 35mm Projector
  • Magic Lantern Projector
  • Baby Pathe Projector Nagra 4.2 Audio Recorder
  • The 12 five-volt D batteries found inside the recorder still held power to turn on the recorder; these were removed and retained.
  • Biunial Magic Lantern Projector

The Biunial was to be used as a working lantern in the exhibition, so the internal structure needed to be re-fabricated with insulation to allow for the fitting of modern LED lights and exhaust for releasing heat generated by the LEDs.

Testimonial

Working with the Melbourne team on preparing ACMI’s Collection objects for the Permanent Exhibition was a wonderful experience. Julian and Kristine attended our storage sites to inspect the objects prior to commencing treatment - this was a great opportunity to discuss our needs for the preparation of our objects for exhibition. ICS undertook work including metal treatments, surface cleaning and structural testing for a variety of objects, such as the beautiful Pye Camera with custom tripod and studio skid. We were lucky to follow up our object treatments with a visit to the Melbourne Lab to review the work completed, which was a wonderful way to gain a greater understanding of the Collection objects’ varying conditions and their ongoing care and maintenance. Kristine, Bruno and the team were a joy to work with; they were communicative, wonderfully skilled and had great time management. We are thoroughly impressed with the work they have done, and how some objects look better than we could have ever expected. A big thank you to ICS Melbourne!
