We have an opening for an experienced Principal Objects and Built Heritage Conservator to join our Objects and Outdoor Heritage Team in a full-time ongoing role.

Based at our labs in Chatswood, Sydney, you will be responsible for designing solutions to complex conservation challenges in a wide variety of site and lab-based projects, and providing oversight of conservation outcomes.

Salary is commensurate with experience in the range of $101,640 – $118,584 plus 10.5% superannuation. This ongoing position is available for commencement in the first half of 2023.

Role

This role features a combination of being a technical lead, mentoring work colleagues, and providing hands-on conservation and senior level project management (both on site and in the lab).  Report writing at a high standard is an essential requirement.

You will be responsible for developing and advising on conservation methodologies in collaboration with the team, high level preparation of tenders and submissions, and advising on the management of WHS risks. Regular features of the job are project planning and implementation, budget and time management, and client liaison.  Working closely with the Head of Conservation, you will have a strong focus on providing expert technical advice, and supporting work colleagues with on-the-job training and mentoring.

Team

Conservation work undertaken by the Objects and Outdoor Heritage Team includes a wide range of work for public institutions, corporate and private clients covering heritage sites, heritage interiors, public art, sculptures, artworks, monuments and memorials, ruins, metal objects, organic and plastic objects, ceramics, stone and glass objects, and archaeological and industrial artefacts.  The team also regularly consults on and writes condition assessments, maintenance plans and treatment proposals.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Hands-on skills as a Senior or Principal Objects and Built Heritage Conservator (experience in public art or building conservation will be highly regarded)
  • Experience sharing knowledge and mentoring the next generation of conservators
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, including detailed report writing
  • Ability to foster great client relationships and engage in networking to promote future work opportunities
  • Membership of an appropriate professional organisation, or eligibility to apply for membershi
  • Australian citizenship or residency is preferred
  • ICS will also consider visa sponsorship of an appropriately qualified international applicant
  • Drivers license
