Short term contract opportunities
ICS has a number of short term contracts from 2-6 months (with possible extension) suitable for conservation students, recent graduates or people with hands-on experience in the arts or heritage sector. The work is located in Sydney and would suit applicants from all conservation disciplines.
Project overview
Conservation work will be undertaken under the supervision and training of ICS conservators. Jobs include:
- mould remediation of a large volume of archival materials (books and documents)
- packing and boxing of archival ledgers and objects
- repairing, stripping, cleaning, refinishing and polishing of furniture
Some positions are ideal for specialists of paper, however, specialists of other disciplines will also be considered.
Successful applicants must be available to work in Sydney. There is the possibility of further work depending on workload and your availability. There may be some flexibility in timing. Part-time work may also be considered.
Selection criteria
Our ideal applicants will have:
- Excellent hands-on technical skills for a variety of conservation jobs and projects.
- Skills and ability to use a variety of hand tools and other equipment, eg. lifting equipment, drill.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English, including technical report writing and client liaison.
- Proficient use of business technology including Microsoft Office software and digital photography.
- Sound working knowledge of, and commitment to, Work Health and Safety practices in the workplace.
- Ability to work independently, set priorities, and manage time effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills that bring positive contributions to the team environment
- Initiative and willingness to learn variety of tasks and to work collaboratively.
- Previous experience of working in a technical role will be valued.
Wages and hours
- Casual rate: $37.18 - $41.22/hr, according to experience
- 7.5 hours per da
