Oliver Hull

Oliver joined ICS as a furniture conservator in 2002, following years of extensive training in furniture conservation and restoration in the UK. 

Since joining ICS, Oliver has worked on numerous important and historically significant pieces such as the furniture collection at Parliament House Canberra; pieces from the Chief Secretary's Building, Sydney; significant items from the Colonial and English furniture collection of the Historic Houses Trust collections; and many items from major private collectors.  

He is highly skilled in both cabinetwork and polishing, including marquetry, Boulle-work, and traditional finishes such as French polishes and waxes.  Oliver is a professional member of the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material (AICCM). 

Oliver´s education in furniture started with a traditional apprenticeship in furniture making, design and restoration. It was there that he discovered his passion for restoration and decided to further his knowledge by attending Bruce Luckhurst´s College for Restoration & Conservation in the UK. The college covered all aspects of his chosen field and gave him an excellent understanding of the trade.  He obtained a Diploma of Furniture Conservation and certificates from City & Guilds of London in Specialised Craft (antique furniture restoration) and Advanced Craft in Furniture. 

Oliver honed his skills at Jeremy Mynheer Restorations in Canterbury, UK, working with some of the top dealers in England and delivering a wide range of restoration solutions. After moving to Australia, Oliver worked with John Hughes Restorations where his main role was to provide fine and detailed work.  A highlight of this period was working on fine pieces from the Schaeffer collection which included a lovely Gillows table.
