Adam has 25+ years’ experience in the art conservation industry in Australia. He leads a 16-strong team of conservators to deliver efficient, high-quality treatments to world class institutions and collectors.
Adam draws upon his training in materials science to provide specialist advice on the conservation of cultural materials. He specialises in painting conservation, gilding and ornate frame conservation. Adam is also trained in the conservation of painted murals, dioramas and painted models. Adam has extensive experience with Australian and Indigenous artists, and has been chosen to work on many of Australia’s most important collections and artworks.
Adam has extensive experience with Australian and Indigenous artists and has been chosen to work with many culturally significant collections and artworks. His formidable knowledge and experience in the insurance and disaster recovery area is valued by insurers and owners, and he routinely works with all stakeholders to reduce the effects of a disaster on items and collections. Adam specialises in paintings conservation and ornate frames, with broad experience in the gilding of painted murals, dioramas, painted models and Indigenous bark paintings.
Projects highlights include:
- Conservation of murals at historic Fremantle Prison- Leading a team of conservators to assess and conserve a collection of the most significant murals in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of the most important painting conservation treatments of 2019
- Tasmanian Floods- 1st hand responder to the 2018 floods in Tasmania to manage the disaster response to save a collection of over 400 significant artworks. Once damaged artwork had been stabilised, the team of conservators conserved damaged artwork.
- White Rabbit Gallery – Manager of the conservation of one of the most significant Chinese contemporary art collections in the world and the complex conservation challenges with modern materials. The collection includes sculptures, paintings, textiles and paper based items by world famous artists.
- Parliament House, Canberra – management of the conservation works for two hundred artworks of key importance to Parliament House’s Art Collection. The collection included artworks by Brett Whiteley, John Brack, Arthur Boyd, George Lambert, Jeffrey Smart, Sydney Nolan and Charles Blackman. Adam Godijn also conserved many of the most important paintings among these.
