Condition

  • Most of the collection was water damaged to some extent, with conditions ranging from minor surface blemishes to more structural splitting of the timbers.
  • The collection needed to be packed, crated and transported from Launceston to the ICS Sydney lab for treatment, a process that required significant planning and coordination.

Treatment

  • Dry and aqueous surface cleans, stain removal, localisedcorrosion treatments, wax applications for protective coating, and polishingwhere necessary.
  • For pieces in poorer condition, treatment included, where necessary: joint realignment, stabilisation of elements, veneer and paint infills and repair, carving of losses, and mould remediation treatment.

Treatment outcomes

The collection was safely treated both in-situ in storage and at ICS labs.  Transporting the treated collection back to Launceston required significant packing, crating and coordination.  The ICS team then travelled to Launceston to oversee the delivery to ensure the whole collection looked beautiful for display once again.
