ICS commenced the project with careful planning, focusing on minimizing disruption to the ongoing activities of the Seed Bank.
Key activities undertaken included:
- Consultation and analysis with stakeholders to understand the specific needs and requirements for the relocation.
- Advice on preparation for cryo-storage.
- Developing a detailed relocation plan, including re-arranging freezer collections, upgrading storage containers, and standardising labelling systems.
- Identifying potential risks and providing mitigation strategies to ensure the safe and secure transfer of specimens.
- Coordination and oversight during the relocation process to ensure the smooth transition of collections, equipment, and staff.
- Conducting a post-relocation review to assess outcomes and provide support for any further adjustments or improvements.

The collaboration with ICS has prepared the National Seed Bank for a successful relocation of the collection in 2024, in line with good collection management practices and accommodating new storage and processing techniques.
