- AWARD WINNING -

The fine decorative interior of the Anglican church of Christ Church Bong Bong in the NSW Southern Highlands was commissioned by the widow of the local landowner Charles Throsby in 1884.

It had gradually deteriorated and discoloured and ICS were commissioned to conserve the entire painted scheme, including the stencil work on the ceiling and walls, in the process discovering and recreating other details that had been painted over such as gold circles and fleurs-de-lis.

During Treatment:

  • Scaffolding, ladders, and other equipment was used during treatment to access the building’s interior decorative elements. The conservation task was to reveal the Church’s original atmosphere without losing the charm of history’s patination.
  • Cleaning and extensive stabilisation and consolidation of original decorative paintwork. Infilling of damaged, localised areas due to failure of the plasterwork. Damaged areas were inpainted in keeping with the original.
