Mould remediation services
Mould can seriously damage artworks, objects and archives, typically through staining and degradation caused by the chemical reaction of mould spores with organic material.
Early detection and removal of mould growth is critical to ensuring valuable items are not damaged permanently. And during the mould remediation process, logistical planning is vital to prevent cross-contamination.
The ICS team is fully trained in the specialist area of safely handling and treating mould-affected objects in collections. We also regularly conduct mould awareness training courses for cultural institutions.

Digitisation Services
Digitising a collection involves a range of processes, from the scanning of catalogue cards and registers, through to high resolution digital photography and 3-D photogrammetry and rendering. Careful preparation of the original source material is paramount to ensuring a quality digitised image.
The ICS team includes conservators and consultants fully versed in the latest developments and standards for digitisation and digital preservation. We have significant experience preparing artworks, ledgers, catalogues and other collection materials for digitisation.
We manage digitisation projects, prepare material for digitisation, provide digitisation personnel, and provide strategic advice on the digitisation of collections. We also work with digitisation partners to provide comprehensive solutions that incorporate all facets of digitisation, handling, preparation, scanning, cloud services and systems for managing digitised collections.

Public Art Maintenance Surveys
ICS works with organisations that manage public art collections to develop holistic, detailed and comprehensive Conservation Management Plans for the ongoing maintenance of the collection.We can also undertake condition surveys and conservation treatments, and provide specialised maintenance where required to ensure the long term preservation of the public artworks.
Our Conservation Management Plans prioritise treatment and maintenance regimes for the collection as a whole, as well as detailing specific capital works, ongoing maintenance, and frequency of work required. In addition, we canprovide costings for both capital work and ongoing maintenance works, and determine the most suitable trades/professions required to undertake the works.
Our team of specialists have expertise in the conservation of a wide range of material types used for public art, including metals, wood, painted steel, plastics and glass. We work closely with electricians and engineers where there are kinetic or electrical components to public art, to ensure mechanisms and lighting are function as expected.
Mount-making for artefact display
Artefacts often require custom solutions to enable their safe display.
ICS can fabricate custom mounts in a range of materials and finishes to suit your display requirements. Each mount is fabricated with artefact preservation in mind and can be designed to maximise an artefact’s visual impact. Mounts either can be barely visible or integrated with the artefact to represent lost components.
