We are seeking a highly organised Objects Conservator to join our Objects and Outdoor Heritage Team, based at our labs in Chatswood, Sydney. Use your hands-on conservation and project management skills in a wide variety of site-based heritage and art projects. Salary commensurate with experience in the range of $62,808 - $78,672 plus 9.5% superannuation. This full-time position is available in January 2021.
International Conservation Services (ICS) is Australia’s largest private conservation practice. We conserve a wide range of cultural and heritage objects and artefacts including paintings, furniture, textiles, paper, sculpture, archaeological artefacts and wall finishes in buildings.
Role
This role requires a combination of hands-on conservation skills and project management of conservation work. It may suit applicants with transferable skills from other related professions.
The main responsibilities are for developing conservation methodologies in collaboration with team members, quoting, and undertaking all technical aspects of conservation. Other responsibilities include project planning and implementation, budget and time management, subcontractor coordination, writing project reports and liaising with clients. The Objects Conservator supports the preparation of tenders and submissions, and advises on the management of site-based WHS risks. In addition, they develop and maintain excellent relations with clients, and contribute to smooth team functioning.
Team
Conservation work undertaken by the Objects and Outdoor Heritage Team includes a wide range of work for public institutions and private clients covering heritage sites, sculptures, monuments and memorials, heritage interiors, artworks, metal objects, organic and plastic objects, ceramics, stone and glass objects, and archaeological and industrial artefacts. The team also regularly consults on and writes condition assessments, maintenance plans and treatment proposals.
Projects
Site-based conservation and heritage projects form a significant component of the work, with a requirement for both hands-on technical and project management skills. Site-based projects include conservation of heritage objects and materials in or on buildings, engineering structures, ruins, monuments, and outdoor artworks.
