We are seeking four enthusiastic and caring Graduate Conservators/Conservation Assistants for an exciting 2 year project at a major Sydney institution.  You will work in a small team of conservators to deliver a significant conservation project.  Salary commensurate with experience in the range of $58,944 – 64,392 plus 10% superannuation.  First Nations applicants and people experienced in working with cultural artefacts are strongly encouraged to apply.

Role

This role requires hands-on conservation skills or solid experience in the careful handling of cultural and heritage objects.  Under the supervision of a Conservation Team Leader, you will work in a team of five Conservators/Conservation Assistants plus two Art Handlers.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Hands-on skills as a conservator with mixed collections and brush vacuuming (experience in a public institution will be highly regarded)
    OR
    Hands-on skills in a gallery, museum or related setting, undertaking careful work with fragile objects
  • A strong appreciation and understanding of working with culturally sensitive materials
  • Experience using hand tools with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Mount-making experience would be useful
  • Strong time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team
  • Ability to work effectively with clients and stakeholders, including stakeholders from different cultural backgrounds
  • Initiative, willingness and ability to learn from others
  • Sound knowledge of and commitment to Work Health & Safety practices
  • Outcomes-focused, with a level-headed approach, helpful attitude and excellent work ethic
  • Confidence using business technology including Microsoft Office and digital cameras
  • Australian citizenship or residency or Australian work visa

Salary will be commensurate with experience in the range of $58,944 – $64,392  plus 10% superannuation.
